COMMUNITY spirit, responsibility and a sense of belonging is what makes a neighbourhood warm, friendly and a pleasant place to live in.This was highlighted yesterday as members of Kg Kiudang Village and Mukim Consultative Council held its first ever meeting with the residents. The meeting was held for the residents and council members to discuss issues pertaining to problems faced by villagers.

Kg Kiudang village head Hj Muhd Saiful Abdullah Anja together with Mukim Kiudang Penghulu Major (Rtd) Hj Mohd Shah Hj Md Noor were on hand to answer questions and issues raised by the villagers. The meeting was also attended by members of the Mukim and Village Consultative Council and over 50 residents.Hj Muhd Muhamda Abdullah, one of the residents of the village, shared his concerns regarding an abandoned building which has become an eyesore in the village as it was now overgrown with dense undergrowth and trees."If not taken care of, the place may soon become a haven for social ills as the place may attract undesirable elements," he added."We should take care of it immediately before something unwelcome happens in our kampung," he said, elaborating on the matter which was also supported by other residents.

The council members clarified that the building was owned by the village cooperative and since it has been dissolved and was no longer active then the previous owners have to be consulted for a solution. The previous owners had no objections and proposed that the building be demolished.Another issue raised was the drainage system in the kampung as clogging and improper flow was the major cause of floods in the area."Since the Kiudang River was blocked and closed off to make way for construction the flow of drainage pipes and waterways have no place to go hence the major flooding in certain areas," said Hj Muhd Muhamda. The members in response explained that a proposal for the works have been forwarded several times to the authorities in the past however nothing definitive has been decided.

The meeting, held at the village head's house, also included a presentation of certificates of appreciation to council members who represented the village at the Village and Mukim Consultative Council Nationwide Congress held last year. The meeting also included a cheque presentation to a village resident as a donation and contribution of the village towards his family's medical expenses.

Mighty Croc Nabbed

By Hj Minor Absah (10th Dec 2003)

Tutong Town - A wandering mighty crocodile who had been on the prowl around several fishponds in Kampong Mungkom, Kiudang in the Tutong district was finally caught on Monday.
Fire Services personnel from the Lamunin Fire station answering a call from the fishpond owner Awg Sajohan Siok, rushed to nab the predator which got entangled in the nets that were installed in the tanks.

The owner revealed that the number of fish in his ponds have been decreasing for the past several days. Few days ago he found footprints which he first thought to be of a monitor lizard. But he was shocked to see a 10 foot long crocodile instead, caught in the nets.

The reptile was later relocated to a safer area by the Fire Services personnel while the Village Head cautioned residents against other crocodiles which maybe lurking in the vicinity. --
